Easy Ways To Make Extra Money During Christmas Season

A beautifully decorated Christmas tree

We are almost at that time of the year again, the Christmas season that gives us a giddy feeling even as adults. Christmas is well known to be a Christian holiday that commemorates the birth of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. This holiday comes up towards the end of the year and even non-Christians also delve into the activities of the season.

It is characterised by travelling, shopping, visiting friends and family members, partying, staying out late into the night, carnivals, engaging in fun activities and generally having a good time.

To the unobservant or less business-savvy person, it is merely a season that comes with a flurry of activities. But to those looking for how to earn money, it's a period that comes with so many opportunities, it's a time when seasonal businesses make a lot of money. The hospitality industry particularly comes alive during Christmas and there is a myriad of money-making ventures you can engage in to make quick money. So whether you are a mom working full-time or part-time, stay-at-home mom, or work from home, all you need to do is get creative, roll up your sleeves and find ways to make money. If you are asking yourself, what can I sell to make money this Christmas? This article met you in good time.

Why good ways to make money abound during Christmas

It may surprise you to know that some young people work all year long and save a greater part of their income for the Christmas holiday. Some of what fuels this behaviour is the fear of going home to meet their peers who are more successful and having nothing to show for themselves. So throwing money around serves to cover up the stark reality of the true state of affairs.

Another reason why business ideas to make money increase during Christmas is that many workers do not get the chance to go on leave or vacation. Maybe a day or two official public holidays are observed at different times during the year but the end-of-year holiday spans a little longer especially if it falls on a weekend.

There is also a certain standard of living that most people aspire to during the Christmas season especially when they have very young children. Food items like rice, vegetable oil, tomatoes, chicken, etc. are in high demand and will be bought despite a hike in prices.

7 easy ways to make extra money during the Christmas season

1. Sale of Christmas souvenirs

A greater number of people will be travelling to their hometown for the holidays and will need items they will give out to their relatives and friends. Aside from this, they will also buy items from their hometown that they will take back home with them. Their items include Christmas-branded T-shirts, mugs, children's toys, pens, hats, decorative items, etc. If you do not have the money to begin, you could drop ship these items.

2. Package and sell gift baskets

Gift baskets or hampers as they are more popularly known here in Nigeria are usually in greater demand during the Yuletide. They are mostly required in more formal environments and banks. Put together wow-products and arrange them attractively. Aside from peddling your goods at offices, you could also use your social media handles to advertise them.

3. Become a food vendor

People may complain about the hike in prices of food items but the truth is that food will always be in demand. Prepare delicious local delicacies that are eaten in your environment, those who have been away for a long time will come flocking to you. You could choose to offer a mobile catering service, that way, you can reach more people and serve where they are needed.

In Uyo where I live, barbecue chicken and fish and roast plantain or yam are always in demand all year round. Uyo has been dubbed 'the land of roast chicken.' Find strategic locations beside hotels, drinking spots or major road junctions.

In the same vein, you could also choose to sell wholesome drinks like zobo, tiger nut juice, kunu, yoghurt and parfait. This ensures that kids are not left out as you devise ways to earn money.

4. Sale of thrift wears

First-grade thrift wears for both kids and adults will come in handy especially since brand-new ones usually become more expensive at this time. A lot of people will choose the cheaper alternative which in most cases means buying more for less.

5. Host events

Hosting community events like wrestling matches, football, dances and singing competitions can be very rewarding. By then schools will have emptied so the more advisable venue would be primarily secondary school fields. You can make money by selling tickets at low prices to attract more people to these events and from the sale of snacks and drinks.

6. Organise tours

Visitors to new places would jump at the chance to see more and know more about the community. Do your research properly beforehand and find interesting locations with rich history and also spots where local delicacies can be sampled.

7. Rental business

During this season, events are at their peak and already existing rental outfits may not be able to meet the needs of the customers. Weddings, end-of-year meetings, family gatherings, parties etc are sure to keep you busy with their orders.

We have all been strapped for cash at one time or the other, let this Christmas be the reason you make more money for your family. Do your research, map out your strategy and implement them. Remember, there is dignity in labour. Cheers to your success!
