Why You Must Know the Word of God for Yourself

The Holy Bible

    If you believe in Jesus Christ, this is for you, if you consider yourself as not a religious folk, this is to hoping that you reconsider your stand. Christianity is not a call to empty religion, but a way of life. There is more to being a Christian than showing up in church on Sundays and during Bible study. Do we consciously practice what you learnt? Do we make time for personal study and prayer? Do we know God's word beyond what you heard in church? Are we sure of our conviction that Jesus Christ is Lord?

    In more recent times, so many 'brands' of Christianity has erupted all over the world. Their founders claim to be called of God with varied interpretations of scripture. So many people flock to these mushroom churches because their doctrine fits the kind of life they want to live. To live in laxity, without restraint and misinterpreting the message of grace. The Bible says in Romans 12:2, "And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God." This is a call to leave and cleave, not to be encumbered again by the life you supposedly left behind.

    To leave and cleave does not mean that you are no longer living in this world, it means you don't conform to the pattern of the world. You have access to a better pattern as recorded in Romans 12:2, "And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God." When your thought process changes, so will your life. Let's get down to it.

Benefits of Knowing the Word of God for Yourself

  1. So we don't get deceived. If we do not know what the Bible says you will believe what anyone tells us and if they lie to us, we will not know the difference. The Bible says in 2 John 1:7, "For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist." We will be led astray and will lose our place in Christ.
  2. We will not get carried away by every new interpretation of the scripture. Ephesians 4:14 says, "That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive."
  3. For direction. The scriptures has a word for every situation of life. Psalms 119:105 says, "Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path."
  4. We will know the difference between right and wrong. Psalms 119:9 says, "Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word."
  5. To teach us. 2 Timothy 3:16 says, "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness."
  6. It pleases God. 2 Timothy 2:15 says, "Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth."
  7. To know his will as written in Romans 12:2 above.
  8. To anchor our faith, no one can do that for us. Mark 11:22 says, "And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God."
  9. It makes us wise.  Psalms 119:98 says, "Thou through thy commandments hast made me wiser than mine enemies: for they are ever with me."
  10. The word of God makes our prayers more effective because we call on God to fulfill his promise and his will for our lives. It keeps us from praying selfish prayers that are not in sync with his purpose for our lives. Isaiah 55:9 says, "For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts." The only way to align our lives with his ways is by praying his word right back to him.
    Second-hand knowledge of the scriptures will do us no good. Our relationship with God is on a personal basis for everyone, we must endeavor to seek him in earnest and believe his word for ourselves.&nnbspnbspbsp;
